OK I'll bite...very occasional poster but constant lurker. I don't hike nearly as much as I'd like due to where I live, but I make it up to the mountains a few times a year. I've been finding more and more that many of my best days out are hiking (and b/c skiing) solo, regardless of the season.

Can anyone tell me if there are good campsites near the top of Mount Webster? If so, how far down from the summit? Unless we can get a ride, we'll be coming up from the north side, not up the AT, so if the best sites are down to the south it would be nice to know how far. Thanks! Whit

Thanks, Trailbiscuit. Ethan Pond... Well, I thought about that, but the opportunities to get up high, above treeline to a summit, seem less over there...Thoreau falls would be within range, but Zeacliff would be too far, and Mt Willey would be a backtrack on the middle day...I never have been...

Well, it looks like the weekend plans have changed again and we're probably heading to Crawford Notch. I'm wondering how full Nauman Tentsite is likely to be this weekend and what other tenting options there are nearby-- Tisdale Spring? Other spots on the AT between Webster Cliffs and Nauman...

My other thought for Columbus Day is Chocorua-- again, a two night trip. I'm not familiar with the area at all, so I'm looking for ideas. I'd like to keep the pace very easy for my 7-year old--- 3 or 4 miles per day. Ideally we'd stay in tents rather than shelters, and I'd really like to have...
