    Missing person

My sister, Helen Holmes is missing, and hasn't been seen since Friday, Sept. 6, 2013. While Helen isn't a hiker, she is a lover of nature, and spends a lot of time outdoors. She lives in Townshend, VT, and frequents natural areas in southeast Vermont. Helen also has taken trips to the White...

    Found: SD card in case

Today I found an SD memory card in a case at the Marlborough Trail trailhead at the base of Mt. Monadnock in Jaffrey, NH. It has some pictures on it. PM me if you lost one.

    Strange litter on Mt. Wachusett

Today I saw a 30 pound dumbbell next to the trail part way up the Old Indian Trail. I usually pick up litter, but I didn't touch that. Do you suppose someone will be back for it?!!! OK, what's the craziest thing you've found?

    GoogleEarth Screenshot Quiz

I got this idea from a Yellowstone BBS. Here are ten GoogleEarth screenshots from the White Mountain Area. Not all may be in WMNF, but hikes to all are in AMC WMG. Some are easy and a couple might not be. Usual rules apply...just one guess per day, and guess the hardest one you know. I hope...

    Pawtuckaway Question

Perhaps Sherpa John can help me.....I'm headed to Pawtuckaway camping with the family for a few days next week. We've been there before, but not this year. I've enjoyed hiking a loop over the Fundy and Shaw Trails, over South Mt. from the north, and back to the campground by the Mountain Trail...

    I found a heronry!

Yesterday afternoon I was walking on a trail near my house in Central Mass, when I heard a commotion of birds some distance away. I've been on this trail once or twice before, but I never noticed this. I had surprised a group of turkeys earlier in a hayfield nearby, so I thought it might be...

    Am I crazy?

I've started snowshoing for the first time this winter. I've been going on short trips up to 3 hours around my house in Central Mass, with a trip up Mt. Wachusett. I'm an intermediate hiker in the Whites, and have hiked about half of the 4k's in summer/fall, including the presi's. I usually...

    Alpinista's AP Peakbagging Story

It looks like hiking, peakbagging, and VFTT are recieving some great press from Alpinista's peakbagging AP story in today's papers. It's a great read, right on page 3 of my Worcester Telegram. Here's a link to an on-line version from the Boston Globe. Congratulations, and thanks, for a job...
