    Entire Dix Range In Winter

We went in from 73 up the great slide on E Dix, and did the entire range, minus Macomb, coming out at round pond. That was a heck of a hike.

    Adirondack Hundred Highest

Yeah, for Avalanche there was a definite patted down summit area. I actually enjoyed the few canisters I've found, especially when you look at the names in there and you know almost every single person that has ever signed in. And for the wondering about a canister from a different mountain...

    Trap Dike

I've done it when it was too wet before. Not fun in the dyke or on the slide. Anyway, way too wet today, we bushwacked Avalanche mtn instead. If it stays dry, I might retry for this upcoming wednesday, or maybe a day next week.

    Favorite Adirondack bushwhack peak?

Another cool thing that happened on the way to wallface was meeting skyclimber at the lean to, where she shed some sage advice on the hike I was taking. I still want to go back and follow the trail I crossed on the mountain--others have reported crossing it also. I really want to know where it...

    Favorite Adirondack bushwhack peak?

I like all the responses, but my favorite was Wallface. After summiting, making my way over to the top of the cliffs was amazing. The views of the macs were outstanding, and looking straight down that cliff to the valley floor was neat. Pretty thick up on that top though.

To treat or not? - Ticks

I pulled one off about two weeks ago, it was probably on me for about 6-8 hours. It was imbedded in my abdomen, and it was my first tick. It freaked me out and I pulled it out, not saving the tick( I'm in central NY). I went to see my doctor to make certain it was all out, and she prescribed 2...

    Dak Black Fly Update - w/e 6/21-6/22

For your hands, try the lightest weight wicking gloves you can find. They are a lifesaver during fly season.

    Dak Black Fly Update - w/e 6/21-6/22

Neil--keep the headnet--I still carry 3 in my pack when I hike. If that seems dumb, try bushwacking in one. A few tears, and it is time to switch up. Headnets saved my relationship on a thruhike of the NPT about 2 weeks ago...They are priceless in the Adirondacks. You can find them for about $1...

    Dak Black Fly Update - w/e 6/21-6/22

If I'm not wearing snowshoes, I pack a headnet. If you don't ever stop to pump water you might get away without one.

    new Winter 46ers

I finished the W on Haystack. I actually saw you out on Emmons last winter. And Bob--sorry I missed you at the dinner, I had really good concert tickets for that night. I'll make next year though

    Any w46 peaks too dangerous?

My new trick is horrible winter weather. Good thing our work schedules didn't mesh up this winter...Spruce traps, high winds, limited visibility and unbroken trails. A bit of rain also

    Any w46 peaks too dangerous?

I resemble that remark...and you and Bob were part of the group that saw the lightning that day on Basin. That was just freaking incredible.

    MSR Lightening Ascents

I just want to add after my previous post, that I am on my third pair of msr decks. I was part of the trip with Neil that saw my denalis break. I toasted a pair lightning ascents on a trip to gray from marcy kicking out of spruce traps. I still think the lightning ascents are incredible, just...

    MSR Lightening Ascents

Mine broke, and I was SOL. They offered me a new pair of any model at thier cost though. I went with the denali evo ascent model after that. Mine had only been on about 5 hikes when the catastrophe happened.

February trip to Camp Peggy O'Brien

If the four spots stay open, would the remaining folks mind dividing up the cost of the empty bunks? I wouldn't mind. I think it comes out to about 34.20 per person extra.
