    2013 Spring Wildflower Thread

I really enjoy all the great pictures people post of the spring (and later) wildflowers. I looked for a 2013 thread and didn't see one although last year's thread was started in mid-march. As said last year by w7xman Please join us this year, as the history of these threads provides an...

    Magalloway Mtn - what's this?

This picture is from a hike we did back in 2007. Never knew just what this was - seems pretty "official" with the number "3" (never found "1" or "2") and pretty well made - note arrow going through both wooden platforms. It was on a side trail going from summit to a "views" point. Any ideas...

    Nanamocomuck

I understand, from web surfing, that "Nanamocomuck was the oldest son of Passaconaway". I have been unable to find what the meaning, if any, is of Nanamocomuck - anybody know? I also checked "The White Mountains: Names, Places and Legends", first edition but its not listed. Thanks!

    Summit Mountain, Woodstock NH

In the book "New Hampshire as it is" by Edwin Azro Charlton (see http://books.google.com/books?id=nAM6TZurLVcC&pg=PA434&lpg=PA434&dq=summit+Mountain+cave+%22ice+house%22+nh&source=bl&ots=mVbOsOxLQ2&sig=5w9f_6KlG4qaiXI5WMWslcmCdmI&hl=en&sa=X&oi=book_result&resnum=1&ct=result ), there is a...

Table Rock and Dixville Peak - 18-Oct-07

Overall, it was a pretty good day. There was still some color in the Dixville Notch area. We had never hiked the trails in the Balsam's area before so we decided to do Table Rock (from Rt 26 - TR50) and then to go onto Dixville Peak via the Cohos Trail. It was muddy, muddy, muddy, and wet! I...

    PATN from Haystack / Nubble

Saturday (11-Nov-06) we decided to get an early start and knock off PATN. Bigmoose had done a trip report and said "One of the easier bushwhacks of the NEHH" so we decided to follow his directions. Heading towards Twin Mountain, we took a right at the 5 Corners and followed the dirt road to...

    Boundary Peak

Yesterday (Sat 04-Nov-06) we set off for Canada to do Boundary Peak. We used the directions provided by buckyball1 at here, notes from Poison Ivy, and of course help from Bob and Geri’s web site (excellent!). We entered Canada prepared with passports to help ensure a “no hassle” entrance...

Hikes in So. NH or MA?

I have a friend who will be visiting the Milford / Nashua NH area this weekend. They wanted to do a hike within about a 60 mile radius of Milford / Nashua. Monadnock has been done, so something else would be ideal. I usually hike more up in the Whites and other 4Ks, so I'm not all that...

    Where's the beef; - I mean where's the moose?

Is it just me or do there seem to be fewer moose this past year than previous? With all the hikes and driving throughout the White Mountains, I've seem far less moose and less signs of moose than the previous year or two. Don't get me wrong, I've seen a few and seen the ol' milk duds in the...
