St Patrick Day Hike up Lafayette

Great day on Layfayette. Eight of us hiked the Bridle Path up to the hut and then on to the summit. We micro spiked the entire way. Trail was hard packed snow except for some minor drifting above tree line. Sun was in and out of the clouds with the afternoon enjoying more sun. Summit...

Will the Dry River Trail be opened.

For a number of years now the NFS has listed this trail a closed to all users. A call to the WMNF was inconclusive; 'call back later in the year.' Does anyone have info on if and when this trail will be reopened. I am hoping to use it for a loop of the southern presidentials in July.

Wapack Trail- middle section, Sunday 9.07.08

Hiked the Wapack trail from WindblownXC on 123 to 101 last Sunday. Shorts and t-shirt, boots and socks. Great weather, mid 70's, good breeze and a view on the ridgeline. The first 3rd of the hike had some muddy/flooded spots from the Saturday rain from TS Hanna. These were easily walked around.

    Well it is about time!

I guess this is a sort of trip and event. I just completed the SOLO Wilderness First Aid course thru the Worcester AMC Chapter. It was great. Thanks for the input and guidance from VFTT members. The course was very good. Even after many years of hiking and canoing, I learned a great deal...

Mt. Whitney, the Privy on High is no More!

This is not new; Rainier has been doing this for years. What is interesting is that it is in the New York Times and is the leading e-mailed article. I am not sure if this is an indication of a ground swell of interest in hiking or interest in bathroom humor...

After reading the very extensive thread on flowers a few weeks ago, I have decided to head on up to the Alpine Garden this week. Can anyone give me insight on the current state of the Flowers in the Garden. Thanks
