    Campmor Brand Products

Campmor Bags I've used a Campmor 20° bag for a year. No complaints. It was fractionally heavier than other bags with the same temp. rating but more than $50 cheaper. Same deal with a Goretex shell I've used for 4 years with no complaints. I've had more luck with ordering over the Web than in...

    2 in a Clip flashlite

Sharing the Clip Flashlight I shared it with a 5" 7" female, but it's much too cozy for two burly men. The geometry of the tent means that you'd be sleeping shoulder to shoulder and there's just not enough room. The vestible is OK, but if you stored the packs there you'd have to push them aside...

    Pharaoh Lake Trailheads

I've gone in from Brant Lake: muddy but passable access road and easy access the south end of Pharoah Lake (2 miles?). I've also taken the horse trail from Adirondack: good trailhead, but a longer trail (7 miles?). -bob m.

    Lantern recommendations

Primus fuel/winter mix After a disasterous trip last November when I belatedly discovered the Primus/temperature problem I've started using the Primus "Winter Mix." It worked quite well at -5°F this past April. bob m.

    Long Lake summer camping

Ah, wilderness... I had a feeling that was the case. There is a large group of lean-tos right at the outlet of the lake. Were you anywhere near there?

    Long Lake summer camping

I'm planning a kayak trip in late July on Long Lake. Can anyone give me an idea as to what conditions are like at the campsites along the northern part of the lake in mid-week? Thanks, bob m.

    Touring Kayaks

Paddle On! Hi Jay, Congrats. The colder temps have their benefits. Get in as much paddling as you can before Memorial Day. If Jersey's bigger lakes are like the Sound or the big Adirondack lakes they'll get pretty busy. I was out on Oyster Bay last Thursday. It was the first time I didn't...

    Touring Kayaks

Carts Sounds great. I seen similar rigs in use for canoes. But can you strap the cart on top of a kayak or - better yet - put it in a hatch? The portage I mentioned in the previous post was halfway through a 18 mile paddle. - bob m.

    Touring Kayaks

Hauling a kayak I paddle with an ADK group based in Glens Falls. Last summer a dozen of us did the portage between Raquette and Utowana Lakes (about 1/2 mile). We used several types of wheels. By far the best on the trail was the PaddleBoy (available from LLBean). The others were useless. bob m.

ADK hike recommendation during mud season

RE: the road less muddy I spent a very cold night at John Pond April 4/5 (near Indian Lake in the Siamese Ponds Wilderness). Once the ice melts the trails should be pretty good. There are presently many bare spots and the maximum snow depth is a foot or so. That will be gone in the next week...

    Hikers on Lafayette

I know the Coxes. There is a very sad kind of poetry in the fact that they were married on a mountaintop.

    snow shoe skiis

Quick review of Yupi skishoes My wife and I tried out a pair of Yupi skishoes. We bushwacked and then climbed a logging road in about 18" of powder. The ascent was trouble free, skins working as advertised. On the descent there was some initial falling over, but after sticking to strictly...
