As the title says, this is a side bar to The Great Pumpkin's report which only barely conveys the magnificent day we had on the "Rock Pile" (no ding to Mr. Pumpkin). We ran out of adjectives by 10:30 AM. The crew at the observatory commented they had to put up a 3-cup anemometer to measure the wind speed. Usually you measure the wind by the number of rotations persecond. Monday, they were measuring the number of seconds per rotation.

On to the task of the side trip for Roy Boy & I up to Monroe from Lakes.

Trail conditions:
The clouds had settled in the col so the cairns were helpful. Heading up the north side of Monroe the trail was easy to follow until about half way up. At this point we lost the crampons tracks we were following but it was a short hop to the top so we just went up. Similar problems following the tracks back down.

Special Equipment:
Crampons & poles.

Comments:
Managed to break out of the clouds to take some shots looking West & South. Met Drew from VT taking pictures (we had seen him earlier on Mt. Washington). If you were not on the Presidentials Monday, you missed a unique day. Met a few doing the traverse. Monroe was #33 for Winter & unsure for Roy Boy.
