Backpacked July 7&8, to summit Owls Head and enjoy the Pemi. The heat made this difficult. Saw no one else until back on Franconia Brook trail.
Trail Conditions: Bushwack from Black Pond to Lincoln Brook was easy - someone has blazed orange markings along the way, though I still would lose the path and relied on my compass to get me back. Found a blue water bottle, left it where the bushwack met the brook.
Lincoln Brook Trail was muddly in places, but very minor, and water crossings were all easy with no need to remove boots, except for Franconia Brook (on the way back). I was surprised at how well maintained the Owls Head trail was, and easy to find.
Special Equipment Required: Bug dope very helpful.
Comments: Black flies were sometimes intense on Lincoln Brook trail. Even with 100% Deet applied, they would still get in my eyes. Elsewhere they were minor.
