Trail conditions: Well-packed trail from ASRC to top of Marble, along Wilmington Trail, to the trail to Esther (marked with a DEC sign), to Esther, then to Whiteface Road. From road along the arête to summit of Whiteface, the trail is obscured due to blowing and drifting snow and crusty in other spots. Caution is needed. For the ski down, the road is very icy for 0.5 miles and then is snow-covered the rest of the way making for a great ski to the Toll House.

Equipment: The normal winter gear. Snow shoes for the trail. BC skis for the road.

Comment: This was a great way to welcome in 2010. Conditions and temps were great all day until the last portion of the hike to the summit of Whiteface along the arête. The conditions there were blizzard-like. All in all a great day for winter hiking. Esther and Whiteface were 44 and 45 for my W46. I look forward to the finish on Haystack.
