Garfield via Garfield Trail
Date of Hike: 7-10-10
Trail Conditions: Trail was in great shape from beginning to end. Despite the rain, the ground was firm and no bushwhacking was required to avoid muddy patches. Water was a bit high at the series of brook crossing about one mile in from trailhead. Rather than risk a spill while rock hopping, we just walked straight through the brooks in our sneakers. Water was calf to knee high and it felt good!
Special Equipment Required: Just poles to keep balance.
Comments: We were determined to hike, come rain or shine. After another fantastic breakfast @ Munroe’s in Twin Mountain, we began the hike in a light rain with the tree canopy acting like an umbrella. Heat & humidity disappeared as we climbed above 3K feet. Cool & breezy & cloudy on the summit…..zero views….but a nice trip. We saw about 6 other people along the trail.
