Date Hiked: 29-Feb-2008
Conditions: Trail consists of light, fluffy snow and is well broken out from trailhead to summit. The plowed lot allows ample off-road parking.
Special Equipment: Because of the snow-depth and lack of hard-packed snow, you’ll be most comfortable on snowshoes, or possibly backcountry skis.
Comments: This hike is actually in VT, but is just sort of across the river from Hanover, NH where I had some business today. Had enough time left over for this short 1.5 mile round-trip hike. From the fire tower atop Gile Mountain, there’s a 360 panorama view which includes peaks such as Ascutney, Killington, Ellen & Abraham, and Mts. Cube & Smart. The more interesting view (at least to me) is of Moosilauke and a portion of the Franconia Range. However, that particular view is quite distant, and is certainly not what you might call “up close & personal”!
