Feb. 2nd, Sat. Down Lake Road, bareboot, across Lower Ausable to the Weld trail. Sun out, blue skies, but soon to change. The Weld trail was hard packed and one could see the old track which was blown in. Saw two other groups of hikers on way up. At junction with Sawteeth, I broke trail up an over Pyramid to Gothic. Snow was solid so one did not have to work hard.

The top of Gothic is frozen snow and ice. Able to cross summit with snowshoes but had crampons. Trail was not easy to follow on the side towards Armstrong, just near the top of Gothic, after that things were easy.

The trail to Armstrong and Upper Wolf Jaw was broken. From UWJ to the junction with the trail to Lower Wolf Jaw broken. From here down the Wedge brook trail unbroken but the hard packed snow allowed easy trail breaking.

In around 7:30 am and back to car by 5:40 pm.

Equipment: Crampons, poles, and snowshoes. Good shell with nice base layer.
