Liz and I needed Jefferson to add to our list. We have been hiking alot on Saturday and Sunday and have been getting stuck in traffic on the way home. This week we decided to try Friday and Saturday. We debated on which trail to take, Castle Ridge or Caps Ridge. Since we were planning on Isolation the next day we opted for the shorter Caps Ridge trail. Except for a couple of wet spots early the trail was in great shape. The weather could not have been any better. Very few clouds, mild temps and only a gentile west wind. We reached the outlook with the glaicial potholes in no time and got a good look at the first cap. At a glance, the caps look pretty intimidating, but if you take your time they are not so bad. By the time we cleared cap number three we were old pros. Liz thought we were facing the summit at this point, but I knew better. The next section reminded us alot of the summits on Madison and Adams. Alot of rock hopping. The summit was crowded. We met a Boy Scout troop doing a hut to hut. While having lunch and making small talk with some other hikers, we mentioned seeing a dead moose on Rt 3 just after the exit off Rt 93. One of the hikers said the moose was hit by the car right in front of him at 3:30 that a.m. The car was severly damaged, but the driver was o.k. The hike down was uneventfull. This was a very enjoyable hike. The round trip is only 5 miles, but because of the scambles and rock hopping, it seems bigger.
