Mts Liberty and Flume via Liberty Spring and Franconia Ridge Trails (8 Jan 2012)

Trail Conditions:
Lots of ice at the beginning, ice floes in the middle of the trail to somewhere above the jct w/ Liberty Spring Trail. Stream crossings were easy. At some point, there were a couple inches of new snow, which was very nice. On the ascent, there was more snow but still the rocks peeked out some. Really nice snow on the ridge. Trail is heavily packed at this point - tons of people on the trails today.

Special Equipment: light traction required.
I wore Stabilicers all day. Saw other Stabilicer tracks and lots of microspikes. Some people in full crampons. I carried crampons but saw no need to swap into them. No need for snowshoes today, left in car.

Comments: Windy on the summits. By late morning, skies were clearing beautifully yielding bright blue sky over Liberty/Flume, then several ranks of clouds moved across the ridge, which all made for incredibly dramatic skies.
