What a difference a day makes compared to Rockets earlier report.
Arrived at Crawford Notch to blowing wind, temps in the high 20's and snowing.
Started up A-Z trail, cold enough you could bear boot, stablizers helped in steeper sections. Turned off to the Avalon trail, someone had come down. Lost the trail mid way up as the foot prints disappeared. Found the trail, blazes were behind the blowing snow on the trees.
Made it to Avalon, 6" of new shoe made find the monorail touch, but didn't need snow shoes. Summit of Field, cold, windy and no views. One other person had passed by heading south.
Headed over to the A-Z, on the willey trail, the walking was good, no postholing,
Summitted Tom, stablizers and crampons due to ice, Headed down the A-Z wore crampons and stablizers. AT the intersection with the Avalon put on snow shoes and it had warmed up and tried of posting holing every 10 feet, deep snow.
A nice to be out, reminder for those folks who read the weather report of sunny and high 40"s to always carry extra gear. On the way down we passed two folks in tennis shoes.
