We took the Woodland trail from the AMC lodge to Clark to Vistamont up to Gilman. From Gilman took Skyland to Rimrock and South ridge trail to South Peak and Fire Warden's Cabin. Clark trail to summit of Cardigan. Mowglis to Firescrew and Manning trail and Holt to trailhead.

Woodland and Clark to Vistamont have seen little travel and have not had a spring cleanup. Clark between Woodland and Vistamont and a few blowdowns as did Vistamont.

The first signs of snow appeared around 2400' and there were patches of hardpack snow and ice on the trail up to the open ledges but nothing that could not be easily barebooted or bypassed. Skyland on the Gilman side had some hardpack snow and ice but again it was not too difficult to get by. Manning, in the usual spot had some serious hardpack snow on a steep section that was a bit dicey. Some may want traction for this section but it is a fairly short stretch. Below 2400' the snow was gone.

Gilman has good views from the open ledges. Firescrew has even better views and Cardigan was nothing short of breathtaking, arguably some of best views in all of NH. You could see from Washington to Monadnock, From Chocorua to Mansfield and into New York.

From start to finish there was plenty of water on the trails for dogie hydration.

It was too cool for bugs when we arrived. It was far too windy on the summit for bugs. They were flying around the car when we got back but they showed no interest in us.

We saw a few people on the summit of Cardigan and met one person coming up Manning. Otherwise we had the trails to ourselves.

Milelage 7.7
Accumulated elevation gain: 2400'
