Working on our list and decided to see how much snow the last storm left in Crawfords. Not sure if I'll get my snowshoes out this year or not, seriously. Took the usual route, Webster/Jackson trail with the fork up Webster. I really like that one-mile ascent through the valley up to Websters summit. It's a moderate ascent and it's always very quiet compared to the conga line going up Jackson. The conditions were perfect for Hillshound crampons, 2 to 3 inches of fresh snow over hardpack, that was it. The trails are boney, and all the water crossings are still open. The first crossing down in that steep valley was sporty and with rocks covered in ice, I had to short leash my dog and get him to jump the span, luckily he follows my verbal commands to a T. We are at #23 for our third round and looking good to be halfway through the list by years end.
