Today was supposed to be a presi traverse...in Vermont:
Grant, Cleveland, Roosevelt, Wilson (and Breadloaf)...but the morning got away from us so we settled for Breadloaf and Wilson via Skylight Pond...and it good choice it was.
The Skylight Pond Trail is very nicely laid out with a comfy treadway through nice forests. The pond a little blue jewel below the Breadloaf ridge...complete with lilies and leeches.
It was a typical Long Trail day, a beautiful ridge forest, even if one mile much the same as the next, with glimpses and one-direction views. Glimpses north through the trees: Abraham, Lincoln, CH, Mansfield, Belvediere, Jay and over to the NH Presis. Nice view of Champlain valley from breadloaf, the rising fog obscuring the 'Dacks. A wide view east and south from Wilson, ranging from Moosilauke south to Kearsarge, over past Ascutney, Killington to the Taconics. especially nice the waves of the nearby Greens along rt 100.
Maybe the best view we saved for last, from Battel, just past the turn back down Skylight pond trail...a nice rocky lookout down to yellow breadloaf bldgs amidst green fields and then due west all the dacks. Some nice chats with end-to-enders, some hiking briskly along in their 70s.

Nice TR. That ridge is great to walk, you probably saw the best part of it. How steep and rocky is the last section of the Skylight Trail? I am thinking about taking my 3 year old up there early in October.
