This trip had to be aborted part way up, but not becasue of conditions. Here is what we found: The road was well packed today, by previous considerate hikers with snowshoes. (Someone had signed in for Santanoni on the 18th.) The trail to Bradley pond - likewise. Well packed, but not enough base to cover rocks, several wet areas, of course. Four-five blow downs requiring crawling under or climbing over. New-Old path was minimally broken, what we saw of it. The stream crossing was NOT solid on the far side, but the lightest member of our party went across to check the path. She punched through, but the water was not deep. There appeared to be one set of snowshoe tracks, maybe two, heading out, so maybe someone came down that way. She recrossed the stream without incident, and we continued up to the standard herd path. This, too, was nicely broken out, but not a smooth, winter highway. Snow cover has a way to go. We had to turn around about 1/2 mile up the herd path today.
