I caught the space station from my campsite at Gay's Point on the Hudson River Tuesday night. It came into view in the southwest at 7:41 and made a six minute transit to the northeast. Very impressive - as bright as Venus, fast and silent.
The Discovery had docked to it a few hours before.
This was my first paddle of the year. I launched from Coxsackie. The water temperature is 36 degrees. Saw flocks of geese, ducks, one river otter and had a good look at a beaver who swam along the shore within 20 feet of me. After sunset I heard turkeys and around midnight a pack of coyotes was yipping and howling close by. A good trip for experiencing wildlife.
