The snow started just after we left the car. It continued during the entire hike. It first started sticking at about 2500'. Started accumulating above 3000' There was about 1" of new snow in the morning between the peaks and probably more by the end of the afternoon. On the way back down there was a sprinkling of snow to within 1/2 mile of the car. There were some ice bulges around 3500' and some ice on the trail between the peaks. The snow today actually seemed to help traction on the ice. No traction devices were necessary today. There is no monorail left on these trails. Winter conditions prevailed up on top. We stopped at Star King and put a jacket on Lauky and gloves, earmuffs, and neck scarf on me. Conditions: wind, fog, snow, temps 26* on top.

There was a relatively new blowdown shortly after the right turn off the old logging road lower down. A spruce tree is blocking the trail between the peaks. One cut has been made in the tree that facilitates the by-pass.

The old logging trail on the first mile is very wet and muddy with water running in places. Once you make the right turn and head up there is relatively little water on the trail.

Distance: 7.2 miles
Elevation gain: 2700'
