In my experience, whether a garment smells or not depends on the material and on an indiviudal's body chemistry. My bergilene stuff from EMS washes out fine, although it does get a little aromatic when in hard use, but I have had other polypro clothing get putrid and stay that way regardless of treatment. Body chemistry, at least as far as it affects what comes out of the sweat glands, changes from day to day and sometimes from hour to hour. It can be affected by diet, emotional state, level of exertion, level of hydration, etc. As mommabear pointed out, the smelly stuff tends to stay in the fabric, even with heavy washing. Febreze, baking soda or vinegar seem like they make sense. But nuking your undies in alchohol??
