Trails: Blueberry Ledge Trail, Rollins Trail, and Dicey's Mill Trail

Trail Conditions: Blueberry Ledge Trail had not been broken out since the last storm. The snow was not that deep to start. We started out bare booting it or with light traction. As we climbed the snow got deeper and we switched to snowshoes. When we got to the Blueberry Ledge cutoff trail we found others had come up that way on their way to Whiteface. It made the ascent up to Whiteface a lot easier. The trail is broken out, but it was still not a nicely packed snowshow trail. The ledges are ice and snow covered. We were able to get up them with just snowshoes, but they are still challenging. The Rollins trail was quite different. No one had broken out the trail since the last storm. There was three of us and we headed to Passaconaway. The conditions varied a lot. At times we able to more or less walking on top of the snow or sinking in through the deep snow. We got the trail started again, but it will take several groups to pack it down. The blow downs on the trail are quite challenging. We had to crawl under a lot of them. As the snow gets deeper you may have to bushwack around them. There were also a lot of pine/spruce trees bent over and blocking the trail with the heavy ice and snow on them. Once we got to Dicey's Mill trail we meet some people. They were going to spend the night and head to Whiteface the next day. Dicey's Mill trail is in great condition up to to Passaconaway and down to the trailhead. It is a nice wide snowshoe trail and packed fairly well. There is still some loose snow on it. It looked like someone tried to hike on part of it without snowshoes and was just sinking into the trail. The brook crossing near the bottom on the trail is still open, but is easy to cross. There are some wet areas along the trail as we got closer to the trailhead.

Special Equipment: Snowshoes

It was a challenging hike because of the Rollins trail not being broken out and we ended up coming out with lights on. Thanks to Jim and Debi for going the distance with me and checking off two more peaks on my winter list. Just one more for Jim.
