Bear Mt. in NW CT is a nice hike, if you go up the north side it is fairly steep.
Take the Undermountain Trail to Paradise Lane Trail to the AT South. Views are great for CT.
West Hartford Res is probably the best place to ride in CT. Nepuag(New Hartford), Nasahegon(Burlington), and Gay City Park (Hebron) are also up there on my list. Are there any places like West Hartford in MA??
I also have the REI Traverse poles, I had never used poles until this spring and I must say I really enjoy using them. You get better leverage on the uphills and you also are able to get a good rhythm going with your upper body. I read somewhere that on descents they can take about 20-25 percent...
We had a Red Fox follow us all the way to Hojos on one winter night hike :)
As for being scared when soloing, when starting a hike before dawn, I will be a little scared but once I get moving and turn up the Ipod I pretty much forget about it.
Speaking of animal sightings, I solo alot and have often wondered about coming across animals in the wild, will most animals that we have in the northeast just run from the sight or sound of humans?
