    Eisenhower via Edmands Path 4/2

Mt Clinton Road gate was open and the road was easily passable on Sat. Trail conditions were as expected. Bare, soft, muddy ground for the first mile or so, patchy ice started showing up and that transitioned into an ice filled trail, eventually the ice got softer and transitioned into a...

    Jewell trail camping

I am doing a loop hike starting and ending in Pinkham. I plan to hike up the Great Gulf, find a place to camp, and then hike over to Eisenhower for the decent. I am trying to mix things up a bit and get out for the night. I will be with my dog and I need a place to setup a tent. I heard that...

    Pee Etiquette question

I think I would be pretty aggravated if someone blocked my path while another party member took a bathroom break. I am not interested in people going to the bathroom, but I am interested in keeping up my pace. Luckily, it has never happened. I usually have headphones on though and keep to...

    Osceola's via Tripoli rd

Hiked Sun May 25, 2014 Trail Conditions were great. No blowdowns, very little mud, slight essence of monorail between peaks. No bugs... Yet!! Equipment used: Wore my VFFs and was fine. Didn't really need anything above and beyond typical day hike stuff. No traction necessary. Comments: It was...

Osprey Packs - great customer service

I am glad to hear about Osprey's customer service. I own three of their packs and have not had a problem yet, which I am surprised about. I love Osprey packs and I feel they have features that I actually use. On the other hand, Atlas snow-shoe is horrible and I will never purchase another pair...

    DSLR Lens preference?

Thanks for all of the feedback. I shoot with a Sony A65 APS-C and my lens options aren't great. The lenses I currently own are; the kit 18-55, 50mm prime, and a tele 55 - 300. I am not a fan of kit lenses and rarely use mine, but the focal length is decent on the trail. I mostly shoot landscape...

    DSLR Lens preference?

I am just curious which lense(s) you guys prefer when shooting with your DSLR on the trail. I have tried all of my lenses but it seems like the 18 - 55 mm kit lense seems to be the most versatile. Thanks for the feedback. Jim B

Teds trail/Carolyn's loop - No Pack Monadnock 4/6/14

Disclaimer: I wouldn't normally post a 5 mile easy hike, but the conditions are so nutty that I felt it might help others. Date hiked: 4/6/14 Trail Conditions: Mud, water, soft ice, harder ice, soft snow, harder snow, deeper snow, and various do able blowdowns. Equipment: Snowshoes...

    Toe Hammered

This may not be the best solution or anything I would recommend. Don't read this if your squeamish haha. I have an odd shaped foot, wide in the front, narrow in the heal. So I always had fit issues (until I switched to Five Fingers). My toe nails were horrible and always in pain after a hike. So...
