I'm heading up to Vt to do Abraham and Ellen in/out unless I can get someone else to car spot. I hike at an average speed but may be a little slower than usual as I'm just coming off from a hip injury. If anyone is interested in joining me I'd welcome the company.

We were planning a 3 day backpacking trip in ME this weekend on the AT from Rt 27 over to Mt. Abraham and down the Fire Warden Trail. Weather has us wondering if we should postpone. Any idea how the trails and the water crossings might be after all this weather?

Sounds good but a lot of us are driving up in the morning from Mass. and leaving our homes by 5 a.m. It's a 3 + hour drive so we can't make it. Maybe others that are more local or driving up the night before can meet. Julie

I had a good time too with plenty of practice using the crampons. There were a few spots where I thought I would have to rely on the "butt slide" but the crampons did the job. It was a nice way to end the holiday season - a good day with good people and great views.

I finally conquered Madison today under less than desirable conditions. It was quite an experience and worth the wait. There was a lot of snow on the last half mile or so to the hut and strong winds all the way especially at the summit. The snow was the fluffy type which couldn't be packed...

This is the last of the 48's for me but my 3rd attempt at Madison. I want to finish up this year so here I go again! 1st attempt turned back due to illness, 2nd time could not reach summit due to weather. Third should be a charm...there's no stopping me this time. I will conquer this...
