I'm thinking I might do the Wildcat Ridge S to N this weekend and was curious about the condition of Ellis River crossing. Ok to cross or should I take Lost Pond Trail?

As I said in the other thread, if I was to do it again, I'd start on Lost Pond. I don't know the condition of the river (I last crossed it 2 years ago). But the reason I'd start there instead of Glen Ellis is to get the legs warmed up before hitting all the ledges. Otherwise it keeps steep almost right after the river crossing.

If you hit the Glenn Ellis parking (or even just haul up on the side of the road) you can check out the river in seconds as it's so close.

If I can save some leg work I'm all for it :)

Lost Pond is kinda nice, though the footing is tricky for a short stretch as you rock-hop the edge of the pond. It's really easy; I'd just park at Pinkham and enjoy it.
