Date of Hike: Saturday 4/19

Trail Conditions: Ammonoosuc Ravine was still firm (I went up early AM) although I still used snowshoes for traction. I mostly barebooted on the ridge, where conditions varied from snow to slush to nearly dry trail to running water. Jewell was messy, still deep and postholed in spots, bare ground elsewhere - I made many changes into and out of snowshoes. I usually managed to put them on just before the snow gave out!

Special Equipment Required: I brought MSR snowshoes and crampons, did not use the crampons. Wish I'd had stabilicers.

Comments: after a long dry spell, I needed a big dose of alpine zone. Perfect day. Mild and calm. Nice meeting Hiker Ed and his friends on the Jefferson summit, meeting Rols, and chatting with some Right Gully climbers on the Washington summit. Lots of friendly folks out today.
