The trail is in excellent condition. It is mostly dry from bottom to top. There are very few patches of mud and water and no snow at all. No stream crossings, no blowdowns. The trail is also fairly easy to follow.

Summer hiking equipment, although gaiters might be useful for the ticks. I pulled three out of my leg just above the sock line. I realized today that the one downside of spring hiking below the snowline is those abominable ticks. :(

The South West Ridge trail is probably the least used on this mountain. It, without a doubt, has the best views of all the trails. :) Because of the ups and downs there is a bit more elevation gain about 2200' and it is about 3 miles long to the top. It's definitely worth it. :)

If you can spot a car, a traverse starting with this trail and going over the Bald Peak trail and down Shawnee Peak is a great hike.
