LT Lincoln Gap to Middlebury Gap
July 16/17
Trail Conditions: Wilderness trail conditions are limited by amount of maintenance, limits to blazing, lack of distances on trail signs. Trailbed is generally was easy to follow because of clear use for the whole 17 plus miles. Especially from Cooley Glen to Clark Brook trail, numerous blowdowns (including some headbangers) slow the pace. None of the blowdowns were problems working around. Brush can be wet, especially in early morning hiking.
Water is especially good at both Emily Proctor Shelter - bubbling, small brook 25 feet from shelter - and at Skyline Lodge - piped spring in brook near to lodge. Skyline Lodge is one of the best shelters on the whole LT!
No special equipment needed.
Met three day-hikers, one solo overnight hiker. Shared the lodge overnite with two Long Trail End-to-Enders. Two other End-to-Enders had spent the afternoon at the lodge and moved north to Emily Proctor after cooking dinner at Skyline.
Excellent hike.
