Trail Conditions: WET and MUDDY. Some wet ledges, but not too bad. Stream crossings at beginning of Speck Pond Trail were challenging.
Special Equipment Required. Light gloves and wind protection for Mahoosuc Arm summit area and eastern side of Speck Pond. Very cold, damp and windy!
Comments: Kind of a slog, but nice to get back up to the alpine meadow on Mahoosuc Arm. Saw very few hikers. NOTE: we discovered on the way back that the stream crossings can be easily avoided by walking up the Speck Pond Road a couple hundred feet and turning right and bushwhacking for about 2-3 minutes. There was a beer can hung on a branch indicating one spot to start the bushwhack. Great to hike again with my pal Tom.
CORRECTION: Date was 7/5/09 -DOH!
