Southern NH, Avatar: Durand Ridge above King Ravin
Date of Hike: Sunday 7 March 2010

Trail Conditions:
Broken out trails - thank you whoever did this! Snow conditions from start were mostly hardpacked, then soft, sticky snow. We used microspikes and stablicers from trailhead to Lonesome Lake, and then donned snowshoes to N. Kinsman summit. One could bareboot most of the way, although going up snow shoes were useful on steep sections. Very little ice - maybe two exposed boulders had some minor icing on a couple steep sections. A few downed trees, but easily walked around or hopped over.

Comments:
(1) Kinsman Ridge trail from Fishin' Jimmy North to next trail junction (Lonesome Lake trail) appeared to have been NOT broken out, at least near the Fishin' Jimmy trail junction.

(2) Beautiful day for a hike with a great group of friends! Blue skies, very few light clouds and warm! I was down to a tee-shirt on the way up to the ridge, and then opted for more layers as light winds cooled things off.

(3) Afew of us had been on the Fishin' Jimmy Trail before and had forgotten the roller-coaster ride with ups and downs. Thankfully in winter, it's a ramp hike rather than mostly a staircase hike. :)
