Trail Conditions: Poorly Blazed, blowdowns, seriously eroded trail bed

Special Equipment Required: None

Comments: Optional - The Frye Brook Trail is an abandoned AT route off the East B Hill Road in Andover Maine. The lower part of the route runs along the Frye Brook Cataracts, a series of granite cascades and flumes. This section is well blazed and maintained. At the top of the cataracts, the trail, although still present becomes rough with few if any old blazes and occasional ribbons. The roure still appears to get a lot of traffic so routefinding really isnt a challenge. As the trail starts ascending, the trail bed is an eroded ditch with many bypasses to either side. It intersects the AT north of East Baldpate. The sign thaty used to mark the Fry Brook trail is no longer at the intersection and by the looks of the tree, the scars from where it was bolted are well healed over. The section of the AT to access East Baldpate (which has extensive open slabs and great views, does have several challenging scrambles up ledges.

Note that the Maine Public Reserve land signage that used to make the area is no longer present. There is a new logging road signed "Cataracts Road" adjacent to the beginning of the trail.
