Trails: Kelley Trail, abandoned logging road, Old Mast Trail, Square Ledge Trail, Walden Trail, East Loop, Dicey's Mill Trail
Date of Hike: 08-06-2011
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Wet Trail
Trail Maintenance Notes: sections of totally grown, waist high hobblebush on section of Square Ledge trail after junction with Old Mast Road
Bugs: some mosquitos at start of day
Comments: I originally intended on heading up the Kelley Trail, but about .5 miles from start it pops out on an abandoned (grassy) logging road, I took a left and heading uphill, apparently I should have went downhill (right) on this logging road where the trail would then peel off left in .1 It worked out as this mistake eventually brought me to Old Mast Road.
Saw bear markings on tree on either upper section of Old Mast, or start of Square Ledge trail, forgot exactly where, as well as tracks. Some nice viewpoints on this loop and awesome rock/ ledge formations on trail.
Would be an excellent loop with leaves down to see the huge granite face of Square Ledge rising up form valley better.
