My husband and I had a wonderful sunny day with great views to do # 48. The trail was washed out in some places, but nothing that could not be handled. We got water at the well with our newly acquired water purifier. The Signal Ridge trail to the Fire watchtower was stunningly beautiful and we decided to have lunch there. We met only two people on the trail. Unfortunately, Sawyer River Road is still closed to traffic and so that added another 4 miles to the trip. The bugs were nasty on that part of the road and we were glad to reach the car. DEETS does not seem to bother them at all. It was not apparent to us why the road continues to be closed, it's perfectly driveable to the trailhead.
