date: 12/13/12
trails: Falling Waters, Franconia Ridge, Greenleaf, Old Bridle Path
conditions: Lots of ice, especially around the around the water falls, used micro spikes on the lower portion of the trails. It was fairly easy to rock hope over the streams, but it did get tiring after a while. After the falls, the trail was then in good shape till the last quarter of a mile when it became a large flow of ice. I used Hillsound Pro which worked well, but others used micro spikes. If the ice freezes hard this would be difficult with micro spikes.
The ridge was in good shape with not a lot of ice. Coming down was very icy, once again I used the Hillsound Pro and didn't have much problem, with micro spikes it proved slow going for some people.
In general the ice was soft enough to work with, but if there is hard freeze could be rather spick.
equipment: Micro spikes and poles to help with stream crossings
comments: Beautiful day 'b the hiker'.
