Conditions: Icy icy--Lincoln Woods trail a skating rink for big long stretches, as well as the first part of Osseo. Much of the trail was a very thin layer of snow over ice. Last 1/10th mile up to Flume summit is a frozen waterfull--thick ice.

No blowdowns, no stream crossings. Ladders had a layer of ice/crunchy snow. Note, the ladders almost more like staircases--wide treads, not as narrow or vertical as I had feared.

Dusting of snow only.

Osseo is a beautiful trail! Certainly one to try as a snowshoe route once we get some good snow.

Equipment: Microspikes essential: could have even used them the whole trip). Brought instep crampons but didn't use. Poles useful.

Other comments: I wasn't going to post this at first, seeing that Chris and Chris had posted just a few days ago, but the conditions have changed a bit, and indeed certainly will again. Just a reminder how much things can change in a few days, especially in winter, so of course you need to always be prepared for a variety of circumstances.
