Algonquin Trail to Sandwich Dome 11/2/13

Great photos and report. I really liked the Algonquin trail when we hiked it a few years ago. We did a traverse and came down Smarts Brook trail. I remember that rock scramble well, and was glad we weren't going back down that way. Interesting that you found it easier on the descent, I was...

Foliage report in White Mountains and valleys....

I was up at Fourth Connecticut lake at the Canadian border over the weekend and the foliage up there was amazing, perhaps the best I've ever seen. The deep blue sky and abundant sunshine had a lot to do with it, the colors were eye-popping.

Why Do Mosquitoes Bite Some People More Than Others?

Mosquitoes attack me voraciously but rarely bother my wife. I am admittedly a much larger person than she. On the other hand, black flies torture her mercilessly and don't seem to bite me too often. I'm not sure which of us has the better deal.

Our Hiking Community has lost one of its best canine friends tonight

So sorry to hear of this. I've always enjoyed your reports and pictures and admired the little dog that climbed big mountains. She sure lived life to the fullest.

    Weekend the NE Kingdom/Northern NH

Intriguing report, thanks for sharing. I love far northern NH. I just wish it wasn't such a long drive, it makes it difficult to visit as often as I'd like.

Views from Wherever - What are your favorite viewpoints for various summits?

Don't quite know why, but Passaconaway has always been one of my favorites in NH. There's just something about that mountain that draws me to it.

    Here's an interesting perspective...

I don't recall where I acquired it, but I've had a printed version of that map for some time.

Views from Wherever - What are your favorite viewpoints for various summits?

I like the view of Passaconaway from the ledges on Hedgehog, Franconia ridge from Lonesome Lake, Monroe from high on the Crawford Path, view toward Washington from Isolation, Chocourua from Chocourua Lake....this could be a really long list.

Cold/Flu Season = Less Hiking Days?

I am getting over bronchitis but not before it cost me a four day weekend in NH over MLK weekend. Instead of fun in the snow in NH it was a long weekend of coughing at home.
