    Do rangers hate VFTT?

Rangers & VFTT This subject came up this weekend during a hike. I would say hate is a way to strong a word, but cause for concern is most likely better. Some,at least one, Ranger has had to assist folks that read reports and assume everythings OK for their intended route, only to get...

    Leather Boots Without Gore-tex

leather boots John, I had a pair of Lowa's for awhile. Although they fit like a glove, they had multiple peices of leather(I think 7) that were sowed together that made up the boot. All those seems were bad for water, but made the fit great. I have switched to an all leather( 1 peice) upper...

    Albany area hike

Albany area hikes Another potential spot is Thacher State Park. It's only 15miles from Albany off of RT 85( New Scotland Ave). Take 85 to New Salem. Go up( 1 mile) the hill and take a right, follow the signs to Thacher. There is an overlook that sports a great view north and a decent view of...

    Mount Marshall Plane Crash Site

Answers, hopefully Doc, I think you may have left the marked trail too early. I think the large rock( 15-20 ft high ) is about 1/4 mile past this slashed area with false herd paths. The large rock is on the (left) of the marked trail. if you go to the right of the rock and behind about 100 ft...

    Mount Marshall Plane Crash Site

plane site The crash site is behind a very large square rock, that is just before reaching the col from the east(lake Colden side). I noticed an area before the large rock that looked like the start of a path towards Marshall. This area is not the start of the path to Marshall, but I'm sure...

    buck mtn & snakes

Rattlers There are 4 dens on Tongue mnt and 1 den on the east shore. The location of that 1 den on the eastern shore is a secret. You have about a zero chance of seeing a rattler on Buck. Have fun and don't worry. Mike G. PS- If you see one on Tongue, you are a lucky hiker.
