The road to the summer parking was still open and very drivable, we had no problems getting in or out with a Subaru.
Pulled into the parking lot with about 6 other cars already there. We left the lot around 8:00 and headed out to Calkins Brook. There was a very light dusting of snow down low...
The trail was in pretty good condition until you start do descend down towards the outlet of Bradley Pond to the lean-to area where it is just a total mess, I am sure it will be much worse after this weekends storm. We camped out on Thursday night sharing the lean-to with Radley from Delaware...
I am looking to see if anyone has been in the Bradley Pond area lately. I am planning an overnight to the Santanoni's and wondering just how bad the trail is near Bradley. I have not been there in a few years and as I remember, the mud was crotch deep the last time I was there in the summer. I...

Trail conditions into JBL were really good, the route had been well traveled before we got to the garden, by the time we left it looked like a highway was blazed through. Snow conditions were awesome with just light fluffy powder covering up some areas of the trail and some short wind...
We hiked into the camp site along the truck trail leading to Calkins Brook on Friday morning. The site was the perfect size and location to attack the Sewards via Calkins. The trail up Calkins was in good condition although it was pretty muddy in many spots. It was very easy to follow dispite...
After going after attempting the Dix range in may ways many times and being denied many many times Jason Deluca and I finally conquered our last remaining winter peak. Hough was our goal and we decided to maximize our chances of getting it by going over Dix rather then taking Lillian Brook.
We...
Trail Conditions:
Trail was completely unbroken from start of the TR to the summit of Carson. Deeeeep snow in many areas. I used snowshoes all day except for one section where I was forced to use crampons on the higher part of the slide, my hiking partner just used MSR snowshoes all the way up...
We are looking to take the South Fork route and depending on conditions either just back tracking or heading down between Dix/Hough. Not sure about that return route though, it may be easier and much faster to just back track on broken trail.
Myself, Inge and one other strong climber will be looking to hit S, E and Hough on Sunday. If you are still out we will be glad to help hammer these out.
Trail conditions were good with a very hard pack base and some new light powder from the night before. The trail was pretty well broken from the Garden to the Break with Shoery Short Cut. From there to the summit the trail was unbroken with some section of wind blown snow about thigh deep...
Andrew it was good to work with you and Jenn for the afternoon. You guys helped cut at least a few hours off of a very long day.
Hope to try to hike with you guys up Haystack this winter. Keep me posted on your plans.
Jason
Equipment needed: snowshoes no crampons needed, tons of food and water for such a long day out.
Trail conditions were good at the start from all the traffic around the LOJ, we started with a broken trail up to Lake Arnold. From Lake Arnold we broke trail up to the intersection with the Feldspar...
