    Dumpster Diving

TFR posted The Mountaineers Ten Commandments yesterday, I enjoyed the perspective it gave. As is often the case, the follow on comments were all over the place, and the merits of peakbagging for the sake peakbagging came up. Funny then that I found this article this morning on "Dumpster Diving"...

    New National Park in Maine...

I just saw this note from Leave No Trace....couldn't find much more on it, but wondered if anyone knew any more than this, or had opinions. ( I know - people here are too shy to share their opinions)

In meetings during the week, but looking to hike Sat/Sun 15/16...is there still a Gathering of some sorts that weekend, or did it never come together, or???

    Lake Street and Nye Pond...July 3rd, 2009

Yes, it was wet...could you guess? First, I'd like to officially request my wife's forum name be changed to "Hikes with No Views"...five peaks for her now, and not a view ever, not even on Cascade! At least with Street/Nye we didn't miss much, I guess, but come on...could the weather gods give...

NY State Department of Health Warning - Dangerous Weeds

Last week when I was out I saw quite a bit of this, and didn't know what it was...now I do. Apparently one of the state inspector's is in the hospital because of the severe burns he received from Giant Hogweed...clearly the best advice is to stay away.

    Seymour - 8/24

I met up with Bill (billandjudy from ADKHighPeaks) on Saturday night, then drove to the Corey's Rd trailhead and arrived around 8:30. First, the day was perfect - blue skies and nice temp...and dry. As we signed in to the register, we saw that there were only two other groups there, but that we...

    Summer Planning

OK - I know this is way generic and broad, but I'm trying to get some early recommendations for my next summer vacation... My wife has seen many of your pics of Maine and would like to spend a week there...we figure it's about a ten hour drive from Rochester, NY, give or take. My only...

Wright - my wife gets #1...

My wife and I were up in Wilmington this weekend - she had wanted to start on her 46, and we kicked around a few options for her first. We decided we'd start at the Loj and head to the McIntyre Range and make our final decision at the Wright junction. For the first half hour, my knee was...

    A hiking death in NY...

Details are still a bit sketchy, but I've been to this spot in HiTor a few times...last time I was there a couple of large trees had fallen over the edge near the falls, so I'd guess that's where he was. I'm surprised at the size of the rescue crew, though - 40-50 people...

    Colvin/Blake 5/24

The trail up to Colvin was in pretty good shape until about 3600' - then there was some intermittent snow patches. The spines held up fairly well...tapered off towards the summit. The col between Colvin & Blake was another story...soft snow, lots of mud trying to suck your boots off your feet...
