    Quick question has anyone hiked the captain from desolation.....i know some have done it from the logging roads off off sawyer river road and some have done it from the top of carrigan...was just wondering if approaching from desolation was possible. thanks in advance!

    hiking boots that run large

    was wondering if anybody knows of any particular brand of hiking boots that tend to run large. the problems i have are my big toes contact the front of my boots on steep descents and i end up getting black and blue toe nails and yes i trim my nails before every trip. i have in between a size 13...

    Camp at old Desolation Shelter site?

    Pretty sure that site is off limits because of over use years ago, and if you are still planning on heading in there the suspension bridge over the east branch of the pemi on the wilderness trail has been removed. Not sure how that crossing would be this time of the year!

    Thinking of climbing mt kangamangus next weekend and would like to know what would be the best approach in the winter and we plan on leaving friday night and coming back on sunday...will this give us enough time and. Any info anybody has on this mt. would be much appreciated. Thanks, Caleb.

    there was a fair amount of snow but the main reason for not finding the remains was we did not climb up the traditional way via the old tower road we bush wacked to what we thought was the summit from the nancy pond trail starting some where above nancy falls and this was after wacking anderson.

    I was just wondering if anybody knows if the old fire tower on Mt bemis is on the true summit. The reason I ask Is that a couple years back when I hiked bemis I never found the remains of the old tower. We hiked it in the winter and we used a gps to find what we thought was the highest point...

    planning on climbing the captain this weekend we are heading in sawyer river trail, snowmobile trail, logging roads to the base and then the bushwack. has anybody gone in this way and if so what was your experience, thick brush, water crossings, ect. Any input would be great thanks.
