    The Bigelows, ME (NE4K #63 & 64)- 3/20/2016

After looking at the weather and seeing complete sunshine for the Maine High Peaks, I decided to hike the Bigelows in Maine, which I had put off for the longest time. They were #63 and 64 on the NE67. Good thing I did put it off until today- if I didn't do it now, I wouldn't have gotten the...

    Your NE67 Finish

Calling all New England 67 finishers: I hiked the Bigelows yesterday, which puts me at 64/67 on the NE67. Now I gotta start thinking about the big finish :D . I know it's gonna be in Baxter State Park, most likely on North Brother, but I have a lot more planning to do. My question(s) to you...

Longest you've driven for a hiking daytrip?

What's the longest you've driven for a hiking daytrip? I.E. driving from Boston to the Rangeley area, hiking Saddleback and the Horn, and driving back, all within 24 hours. There is a very wide variety of hikes discussed here, so the answers should be interesting  . For me: 420 miles for...

Lost Trekking Poles on Old Bridle Path- Mt. Lafayette

I lost a pair of "Thunder Bay" trekking poles while descending the Old Bridle Path on Mt. Lafayette, probably shortly before the steep climb to Agony Ridge. If you find them, please either PM me here or contact me at [email protected]. Thank you, Spencer (hiker0200)

Accessing Spaulding Mtn from Sugarloaf ski area

I'm currently at 60/67 on the New England 4Ks, and I'd like to add #61 and possibly 62 to my tally this week. I was considering doing Sugarloaf and Spaulding (already did Abram). Normally, I'd go in from CVR, but that approach seems like it would be a mess this time of year, or undoable at all...

    Mont Mégantic, Québec- 11/8/2015

I got my fancy new passport card on Friday (10/6) when I came home from work, so I knew what I had to do on Sunday. Hike Mont Mégantic, a 3,615 ft. monadnock in southern QC that had been on my to-do list for a very long time, but the only thing keeping me from doing was the lack of a passport...

Mt. Abraham, ME (NE 4000 Footer #60)- 10/31/15

Every year, on or around my birthday, I always try to do a hike that stands out. Well last Saturday (10/31) was my 21st birthday, and I hadn't done anything new on the NE 67, so off to Maine I went! It was also the last day of Daylight Savings Time, so I definitely took advantage of that :cool...

    Rapid Stream Rd Bridges Replaced

NOTICE: The two bridges on Rapid Stream Rd (on the way to Mt. Abram's Firewarden's Trail) that washed out a while back have now been replaced, according to an NETC report from the 19th. Therefore, it is possible to drive all the way to the trailhead proper :D ! If you need to hike Abram for...

A Taste of Winter on the Presidential Range- 10/18/2015

After reading the recent weather reports, it was my time :D ! The plan was to attempt the Rockpile and just go as high up as I could. Due to rough weather and trail conditions, I only made it to the Lakes of the Clouds Hut, at 5,050'. Not too shabby though IMHO- I was lucky that I got as high as...

    # of New England 50 Finest finishers

Does anyone know the most up-to-date number of finishers of the New England 50 most prominent peaks (aka "New England Fifty Finest")? I can't seem to find any recent numbers, and any numbers I did find were from years ago. Also, have any of you finished that list? This list has caught my...

Found trekking pole at Mt. Cardigan Fire Tower

Yesterday, I found a trekking pole with "USA" inscribed on it on top of Mt. Cardigan, right under the fire tower. I brought it back to the Cardigan Lodge on my way down and gave it to the caretaker, so it's in good hands. If that trekking pole is in fact yours, it's at the Lodge.

    Pico Peak, VT- 3/22/2015

Haven't posted a trip report in a while, so here ya go :) . I had today off from everything, and decided to head to VT and bag NE4K #53. Well, that didn't happen. To get to the Jerusalem Trail trailhead, I had to drive up and over a 2,370 ft. mountain pass called Appalachian Gap. Via VT route...

    Hiking routes up Mount Ellen

If the weather for Sunday allows for it, I'm going to hike Mount Ellen in Vermont for #53 on the NE67 list. My only problem is that I'm torn as to which route to take. A part of me wants to hike from Appalachian Gap due to the higher starting elevation (I know about the rather high amount of...

Golf course bushwhack for Crocker Mtn

Does anyone know how much more distance doing the golf course bushwhack adds to the Crockers in winter? I would just do the Crockers and call it a day; I don't know how well I'd be able to follow the Redington herd path in winter. I know that in summer, it's around 6.5 miles for both Crockers...

A Taste of Winter on Mt. Adams- 11/8/2014

Like many of you on here and other forums, I couldn't sit at home on a day like last Saturday. I thought that to get the most out of the weather, I should go above treeline. And that's exactly what I did, on Mount Adams, via the Air Line, Gulfside, and Valley Way trails. At Appalachia, there...

    North and South Twin 7/14/2014

Haven't posted a TR in a while, so here ya go :) . On 7/14/2014, I did a solo hike up North and South Twin from the Haystack Rd. parking area. The two peaks were #40 and 41 on the NH4K list for me. I approached the Twins from the parking area on Haystack Rd, setting out on the 4.3 mile North...

    Mount Cabot 5/16/2014

I had the day off, so I thought, "What better way to spend the day than bag #32?" So that's what I did. As I drove through Pinkham Notch, Washington and every other peak in the vicinity was socked-in, plus it was drizzling. However, when I got into Gorham, I noticed that the skies were clear...

    Crotched Mountain 7-Mile Loop- 5/10/2014

I didn't want to be cooped up in the house on a day like this, so I decided to spend it hiking; however, I was low on gas, so it had to be relatively close. I was up for a southern NH 2,000 footer and remembered the Crotched Mountain Town Forest parking area, which is a few miles closer to my...

Trail up Stewarts Peak (Warner, NH)?

Every trip report of Stewarts Peak I've read mentions a bushwhack as the primary route to the top. A few weeks ago, I saw a YouTube video of it, and it showed blazed trails leading to the top (but not where they originate from). Anyone know where these trails start, if they run from base to...
