    How is the snowpack/rain situation?

I'm planning a trip that involves Hancock Notch, Shoal Pond, and Cedar Brook Trail on the week of May 16th. Are the rivers too swollen (Sawyer River coming down from Hancock especially) to cross? Thanks FR

    Airline Travel w/ Camp Stove

United will confiscate your stove. i have a family member who works as a baggage agent at United. If you're carrying a backpack (or see that you have one) they will ask you if you have a stove. Tell them the truth and they will confiscate it (or ask you to airmail it home). If you disguise...

likelihood of taking Washington from Gray Knob?

Gracias sirs I was thinking of round tripping it from grey knob .. saving weight and making better time. but it sounds like it's better to take everything ... in case we have to bail and camp in the brush somewhere in one of the valleys. I didn't want to use two cars for this trip, but it...

likelihood of taking Washington from Gray Knob?

That time of the year is upon us.. or me, most likely, and I'm planning my annual winter backpacking trip. What's the likelihood of taking Gulfside from Adams to Washington at the end of December? Brutal winds? low visibility? Would the conditions be similar to say the portion of Gulfside...

cute bed & breakfast/condos to stay in btwn Xmas and New Years?

    Uncompahgre Peak 8/8 - 8/14

Just got back from a trip out west with my girlfriend and her family. It was my first 14'er and it wasn't too bad at all. The air near the top was thin, I could only manage 50 paces before I had to stop and take a breath. Definitely a good experience if you haven't been over 10,000 ft! pics...

The ultimate backpacking destination in Europe?

Ok, so most people when they get out of college (or maybe are in college), drive across the United States or something. I'm planning a backpacking trip in Europe, quite possibly in France. Can anyone suggest an itinerary that will include 1 full week of backpacking time that shows the best of...

Anyone find a thermarest on Lowe's Path?

Recently took a trip to Gray Knob and lost a thermarest (orange case) on the way down. Took Spur Trail to King Ravine to Lowe's Path. Believe to have lost on lower end of Lowe's Path or nearby the store. Please email if found, it would be greatly appreciated. ruckerz (at) psu (dot) edu

    Madison/Adams/Jefferson/Washington: Dec 28

Man!! you are a lucky dog. I posted a trip report just six days earlier and all the northern presies were stuck in the clouds with hurrican force winds!! (Causing my group to abort adams and jefferson completely). I hope it's better this coming weekend because I'm going for another attempt.
