Date of Hike: 2/21/12
Trail Conditions: Very icy on first two miles of Mt. Kinsman trail, more snow after that but still some significant ice bulges to get over. Once on the Kinsman Ridge trail, hardly any ice, and snow packed down until close to South Kinsman where there was some minor drifting.
Special Equipment Required: Some kind of traction is essential right from the parking lot. My Microspikes (possibly a bit dull) weren't up to the task so I switched to Hillsound Trail Crampon Pro version for the rest of the day. Saw others in Microspikes though. Full crampons wouldn't be overkill on the Mt. Kinsman trail. Didn't need the snowshoes as the drifting near South Kinsman was minor and only in a short section of the trail.
