3/22 Chocorua via Champney Falls & Piper trails

Trails: Champney Falls trail, Piper trail
Conditions: Hard-packed all the way to treeline. Icy spots mixed with bare rock above treeline, the trickiest parts were around the first hump above treeline. After that the final summit area was mostly bare rock. Wore Microspikes all day, partner wore crampons. Saw some people barebooting all the way to the top. Carried snowshoes but never used them.
Comments: the slight detour to Champney Falls is well worth it to see the ice formations.
