Date of Hike: 1/13/08 Sunday

Trail Conditions: Trail was packed snow and frozen solid. No problem with water crossings. A few downed trees here and there. There were a few sections that had no snow and was just wet/muddy. The trail above treeline was a combination of bare rock and rock coated with a thick layer of rime ice.

Special Equipment Required: Kathoola microspikes were the footwear of choice for me today. Brought crampons but didn’t use them. Poles were helpful. No need for snowshoes.

Comments: Optional – This was a perfect day for hiking above treeline. Clear skies, bright sun, mild temps, and little or no wind. Only saw one group of six guys below the summit the whole trip. Stopped and said hello the caretaker at Gray Knob Cabin. 43 down on my winter list, 5 to go.
