#44 for my son and I! This long hike was made more difficult by the wet conditions from all of the recent rain. The grassy areas of the trail was very wet and thoroughly soaked our feet. The Opalescent River crossing was very easy to find and manage. The water was swift and cold in the middle, but felt much better on the return than it did in the morning. The herd path up Allen Brook was wet, muddy, and slippery which slowed our pace. We spent a good portion of the day hiking with ADK Hiker(s). It was a pleasure meeting and hiking with them. We met (unplanned) at the trailhead and crossed paths several times on our way to the summit. We chatted for a while at the summit and then spent most of the descent and return together. Great folks!

Allen is a long hike on an interesting variety of trails. Not one that I will soon forget, but also not one that is on the top of my list to do again.

44 down - 2 to go!
