The morning so breezy and cold
We were unsure how the day would unfold
We drove to the trail in a in a spitting and slight hail
Would this be a day we would fail
Stepping from our subie we check the snow it was soupy
We donned our traction for spite not sure if it would be wrong or be right
Hiking along we signed in at the post there had be a half dozen people there at most
We wallowed on creamed corn with a spine that was a thorn
Only a foot at best or you fell in up to its crest
We continued on not enjoying each step when finally it cleared and we could have our first rest
The first feel of dirt under our feet we knew now we could not be beat
We climb and we climb through erosion sublime
The rock came and went but the ice was content
We slipped and slid as the snow would not give but soon the south side was fast to forgive
On the first summit we stand below the clouds they were so grand
As we continued our climb through the pines on the spines
We scrambled the first chimney thanking god someone was with me
The footing was wet but we did not fret
There was always a hold around the corner that was placed like a mold
We pushed up and along to the second summit we were on
But from here we could see what was in store for our knees
The snow had returned with a depth so unsure we walked lightly atop but the trail was a blur
The canopy so tight it fails to allow sunlight
But soon the south side would give us our stride
We picked up our speed when the snow began to recede
As we move left then moved right it was a trifle sight
The rocks we running wet albeit slippery we would bet
As we picked out our routes we kept looking for shoots
But all we could find that would settle our mind
Is the surveyors bolt all due in good time
We finally stood atop this peak make of rock
The clouds moved in and out as the Taylor Pond came about
The views though lacking we had some fun while bushwhacking
The descent was less eventful but the snow became a boot full
We raced to the car as the views opened up and we could see blue out afar
A great day in the woods with great company is what it’s all about
If the views aren’t there it’s no reason to pout
