Note: Catamount SF is a secondary SF without marked or mapped trails. The hiking opportunities include the forest roads, which are not maintained or marked. The forest roads sustained significant damage when off-roading was allowed in the Forest. ORVs were prohibited several years ago.
Status:
The main north-south road , North Catamount Hill Road (gated) has received TLC and maintenance by a snow mobile club and the DCR.
All other forest roads are in very, very difficult condition due to the December 2008 ice storm. Plan for very slow hiking in this area to get over, under or around the thousands of downed trees in the area. The region just south of Pocumtuck Mountain is most seriously affected, to the point of road obfuscation. Since the roads are unmarked, identifying the road at this time is extremely difficult. I did a little flagging in the area where I could find the road, simply to aid in the navigation.
